Stop the Rot with Vinyl Clad Windows

Vinyl clad windows have become really popular in the last several years. Lets take a look at why a window that is clad in vinyl is such a great choice for the average homeowner.

Most vinyl clad windows are constructed out of wood. This provides for the normal aesthetic look you desire of the warm, rich color of wood on the inside of your home. However, on the outside of your house, where the rain, snow, sleet, and ice pummel the frame continuously, the wood is clad with a tough vinyl coating. They vinyl cladding is much more than a paint. It is usually an extruded profile that is bonded to the the wood frame in some way.

In years past the biggest problem with vinyl windows was that they would actually harden under the UV rays and become very brittle. Most manufacturers have solved this problem by introducing UV inhibitors into the vinyl. When selecting your vinyl clad windows this will be on area you want to look at, along with the warranty.

These windows can come in many types of wood (interior) and colors of vinyl (exterior) to match your existing home finishes. One of the things we always caution our visitors is to pick a neutral exterior color. Since these windows cannot be painted on the exterior, since they are vinyl clad, you need to pick an exterior color that will look good with lots of field paint colors. We typically recommend a white or tan color for the exterior. The interior wood can either be painted or stained to match your existing interior finishes.

With all the options available in vinyl clad windows today, be sure and thoroughly research your options before making an investment.
