Installing Replacement Windows? Why Do It Yourself?
So your thinking about installing replacement windows in your house, now you need to decide if you are going to do it yourself or hire it done. Well, both are good options, and I can tell you from experience windows are not that hard to install. But in my book there is a big difference between easy, and time consuming. Let me tell you a little story - 7 years ago my Wife and I purchased a home that was about 15 years old. The biggest problem with the house was the original wood windows were beginning to rot out on the outside of the house. So after pricing some replacement windows, I decided to install the windows myself. I woke up Saturday morning and began removing the old rotted window. Once the window was out I then noticed the stud framing around the base of the window opening was rotted. So I began to remove and replace this framing. Then one thing led to another, and all of a sudden is was Saturday afternoon and the new window was still not in the opening. By the end of the day on Saturday, I had one window replaced, and I really wished that I had left the window installation up to the pro's! In comparison, my Father hired his window installation done, and his entire house was replaced in one day. So while installing replacement windows is not hard, it is time consuming. The replacement windo professionals, are trained in repair, and can get the job done much quicker. It is really just up to your pocket book.
