Exterior Wood Window - Do the Always Rot?

I can see it now, can you? A beautiful house in the woods. You have saved all your life for just this home. Then one day, you notice that an exterior wood window is beginning to decay. What options do you have?

The biggest problem with exterior wood windows is wood rot. What typically happens is that as the windows go thru the freeze/thaw cycle every year, any joints begin to open up. If the window is not regularly maintained - by sealing with paint or a sealing stain, water then gets into these joints. Once water gets into the wood ont the exterior it goes to work, slowly rotting the wood.

Window manufacturers have battled this problem as long as windows have been constructed. We typically recommend that our visitor look at the option of going with a clad replacement window. Metal or Vinyl clad windows are a great choice and really minimize the maintenance required when compared to an exterior wood window.

While having a wood window frame does not have to be a problem, you will need to understand that yearly maintenance will be required to keep them looking and performing like new.
