The Difference Between Aluminum Windows and Vinyl Windows Is...You

Obviously, the main difference between aluminum windows and vinyl windows is that aluminum is a natural metal, and vinyl is a synthetic plastic. While this may seem far from the answer you're seeking, it actually matters a lot.

Metal, as an element, is fairly easily recyclable. That's why you can blithely toss a pop can into recycling, while you have to scrutinize the bottom of every plastic container to find whether it's recyclable at all. Metal, on the other hand of our everyday ecological concerns, is a fluent conductor of heat. Vinyl, a plastic, absorbs it.

This matter of heat conductivity matters a lot, and the colder your climate, the more it matters. You are going to lose more heat if you put aluminum framed windows in your house, unless you choose the most expensive aluminum windows, which are actually wood windows clad with aluminum. But if you live in the hot, dry southwest, this probably won't matter at all.

These climates are the perfect place to install aluminum windows because their tendency to leak heat and humidity won't matter. If you live in such a climate, enjoy aluminum's easy maintenance and its concurrent advantage: the fact that while it doesn't NEED to be painted, it CAN be painted. You can leave the exterior unpainted but still have the pleasure of painting the interior of your window to match your d?cor. With vinyl, unless you buy certain expensive lines, your color choices will be very limited.

Both vinyl and aluminum are easy to clean and low maintenance. They are both available in a full range of styles and prices with options to match. The differences between aluminum windows and vinyl windows lie not in their intrinsic quality because both have their good points, it is just which ones gel with your particular lifestyle.
