Providing your Higher Education in Replacement Windows

The Best Type of Replacement Window Is a Stereotype

Face it. Reality is kind of complex. Stereotypes exist because they simplify reality. And when you want to know what the best type of replacement window is, you will probably be answered with a salesperson's stereotypical assumption, which is usually pretty much interchangeable with the most expensive window of the retailer's lines.

Reality is kind of complex. The answers always seem to depend. In this case, the answer will depend upon your house (its construction, age, color, existing windows), your location (general climate, seasonal variations in wind and water conditions, what direction the windows face), your budget, your taste, your ecological and energy concerns, and your relationship with your house. Oh yes. It will also probably depend upon your spouse/co-owner and maybe even an HOA.

Because there are so many factors that will bear upon the right, best choice of windows for your house, you should be ready to spend some time identifying what you would like before you approach a salesperson. You can't win a race if you don't start at the line and you don't want to let someone else draw the line for you. Know what you want and can afford, then let the salespeople of America do their best to sell you their best windows.

Wood or vinyl, aluminum, or vinyl clad; awning or casement or bay; double glazed or single, coated or clear or insulated with argon: you've got a lot from which to choose. To find the best type of replacement window for your very own home, you've got to know your very own needs. There is no one best type, not in windows, not in cars, not in roses...
